MUSKEGON – The Mona Shores Sailor hockey team was able to cut visiting Grand Rapids Catholic’s lead to 2-1 with a third-period goal Saturday night, but the Sailors could get no closer in the one-goal loss.

The Cougars’ Joe Kopfensteiner and Spencer Wierda both notched second-period scores to put their team up 2-0.

Ben Essenberg, assisted by Nick Nawrocki and Alex Sturr, bagged the Sailors’ third-period score, but the home team was unable to complete the comeback.

Prior to the Cougars’ scores, Mona Shores had a short-handed score called off.

With the loss, the defending OK Gold Conference defending champion Sailors fall to 1-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the OK Gold Conference, while Grand Rapids Catholic now sits at 1-2-2 overall and 1-0-2 in the league.
