Madie Giese scored the winning bucket with about one minute left in the contest, lifting the Newaygo girls basketball team to a dramatic 45-43 victory over Big Rapids Thursday in a Central State Activities Conference tilt.

The game was tight from start to finish, with Big Rapids clinging to a 23-22 lead at halftime and Newaygo up 34-32 at the third buzzer.

Kylee Chesley led a balanced Newaygo attack with 13 points and six rebounds. Shelby Boyd contributed 10 points and 12 steals while Giese had eight assists, six steals and five rebounds for the Lions (4-4).

Kalley Hunt had a game-high 22 points for Big Rapids (3-6).
