The host Grant girls basketball team struggled to score Thursday night versus nonleague foe Sparta, putting up just three points in the first and third quarter, and being held without a point in the fourth en route to the 52-18 defeat.
Sparta got rolling with a, 18-3 first-quarter edge, and took a 34-15 lead into the locker room at the half. After a meager 4-to-3 scoring effort in the third, the Spartans closed on a 14-0 run.
Sparta was led by Frenchesca Buchanan, who poured in 18 points while grabbing 10 boards in the victory.
Samantha Slachter led the Tigers with eight points.
