The Muskegon Community College mens basketball team did two things well Saturday afternoon versus Kellogg Community College. First off, the Jayhawks defeated the Bruins 74-55. On top of that, though, MCC stopped a five-game losing streaks in its tracks.

Balanced scoring and hot shooting in the first half gave MCC a 16 point half time lead, and from there the host Jayhawks cruised to the victory.

Muskegon Community out rebounded Kellogg 44-38 and was able to dish out 20 assists to just 10 turnovers.

The Jayhawks were led by a trio of sophomores on both ends of the floor, including Jake Anderson (Grant High School) scored 15 points, while grabbing five boards and turning back two shots.

MCC’s Tyiwan Jones (Lansing Eastern) led all scorers with 19 points, while totaling seven rebounds, six assists and two steals in the win, while fellow backcourt mate Marquise Hatter (West Ottawa High School) dropped 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting with seven assists and a steal. Chase Casebolt (Montague High School) added nine points and Turean Conor (Kenwood High School, Chi.) scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Kellogg was led by sophomore Nathan Taylor, who finished with 15 points and a game-high 18 rebounds. Luke Heide was the only double figure scorer for Kellogg with 12 points.
