MANISTEE – A poor offensive effort in the first quarter prevented a Shelby comeback Saturday, leading to a 50-41 Manistee victory in girls basketball action.

Down 18-2 after one, the visting Tigers outscored the Chippewa 39-32 over the next three quarters to no avail.

The Tigers, though, did get close, cutting the lead to two in the fourth.

“We had a chance in the 4th when it was 41-43 with a little over a minute left,” said Tiger head coach Sarah Wolting, “but we had some untimely turnovers and ended up having to foul.”

She added, “But I am proud of how my girls can back after being down by 16.”

Shelby’s Tristen Moore led her team with 18 points, five rebounds and three assists, while teammate McKenna Inglis finished with six points and six rebounds in the loss.

Manistee was led by Audrey Tomaszewski with a game-high 21 points.
