It’s finally here, the boys basketball postseason, although it seems to have started back in early January, when the Muskegon boys team downed visiting Chicago Curie while snow piled up outside old Redmond-Potter Gymnasium.

Since then, seriously huge games have come at a steady rate, culminating this past Tuesday with Shelby’s four-overtime win over Muskegon Heights.

But starting Monday, there will be more than just pride on the line at any boys basketball tipoff. The time for hype is over. Win or go home, because during the annual MHSAA basketball tourney, moral victories are cold comfort to tournament glory.

 

District 6-A at Muskegon

The undefeated Muskegon Big Reds (20-0) host the Class A-6 district tourney, capping Monday night’s quarterfinal round against Grand Haven (9-11). Mona Shores (14-6) kicks off the night versus Kenowa Hills (10-10), and the winner of that game will take on Grand Rapids Union at Wednesday’s early game, and the Muskegon/Grand Haven winner moves on to face Reeths-Puffer (3-16) in the other semifinal.

The finals tip off Friday at 7 p.m.

District 6-A at Muskegon

District 52-B at Spring Lake

The Class B district tournament at Spring Lake kicks off Monday with one heck of game, as the host, and Lakes 8 Conference Champion Lakers (13-6) take on the Whitehall boys. Whitehall (14-4) dropped its final game of the regular season to rival Montague, so the Vikings could be charged up or deflated.

Fruitport (7-3) plays Coopersville (11-8) in Monday’s late game.

The Fruitport/Coopersville winner will face Oakridge (8-11) in Wednesday’s late semifinal, and the winner of the other quarterfinal will take on Orchard View (0-18) in the opener.

District 52-B at Spring Lake

The host Lions (14-5) won’t even hit the court until Wednesday (versus Tri-County (3-16)), with Grant (12-7) and Sparta (1-19) playing Monday in the lone quarterfinal. The winner from that game will face Fremont (13-5) in the early semifinal game.

Friday’s final starts at 7 p.m.

District 53-B at Newaygo

Host Manistee (4-14) takes on Mason County Central (15-4), who capped the regular season with a huge win over Shelby, in the lone Monday quarterfinal. The winner moves on to face Benzie Central (6-13) at Wednesday’s early semifinal.

Ludington (13-7) takes on Kingsley (9-10) in the late semifinal.
