If there’s any positive the Muskegon Lumberjacks can take away from their 6-3 loss on the road to Cedar Rapids on Friday, it would be Matt Iacopelli keeps scoring.

Iacopelli scored goal No. 32 on the season off a Trevor Moreck pass midway through the third period. The Brownstone, Mich. native is currently tied atop the USHL in scoring with Omaha’s Tyler Vesel.

Muskegon quickly fell behind 1-0 to Cedar Rapids allowing a first period goal nearly two minutes into the contest. Add two more Roughrider goals early in the second period and the Lumberjacks trailed 3-0.

Jack Rowe was finally able to put the Jacks on the scoreboard with 51 seconds left in the second period. Robbie DeMontis had the helper on the play.

The Lumberjacks luck did not improve in the third period as the Roughriders found the net to go up 4-1. Iacopelli followed up with his tally to make the score 4-2.

Once again Cedar Rapids would respond with another goal and an empty netter at the 19:59 mark to keep the contest out of reach for Muskegon.

Christopher Dodero’s third goal of the season for Muskegon came off a Connor Wood assist to make the score 5-3.

Muskegon outshot Cedar Rapids 34-24 as Lumberjack goalie Eric Schierhorn posted 19 saves in the loss.

The Lumberjacks are now 20-21-4 and hold the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference.
