The Mona Shores girls basketball team fought off a pesky Muskegon Catholic team and held on for a 52-50 win on Tuesday night.

The Sailor defense came up with a key stop as time expired to secure the victory.

Jasmyn Walker led Mona Shores with 19 points, eight rebounds and two assists while Amy Gillings added 10 points.

Saddie Vella jumped started the Mona Shores’ offense with all six of her points in the first quarter. The Sailors built a 17-9 lead to start the second quarter and led 28-21 at halftime.

Muskegon Catholic came through with a strong third quarter to play Mona Shores even then staged a comeback rally in the fourth. The Crusaders outscored the Sailors 15-9 in the final eight minutes.

Zee Harris led Muskegon Catholic with 12 points and Momo Neal added nine points, seven rebounds and two assists. Tootie Thompson scored eight points and Tae Robertson chipped in seven.

Kelsey Wolffis scored seven points for Mona Shores, which took advantage of 20 MCC turnovers.
