It didn’t take long for the Shelby boys basketball team to bounce back from last Friday’s loss to rival Whitehall.

In fact, it took one quarter.

Host North Muskegon (7-10, 6-6) fell behind early, primarily due to Shelby’s hot outside shooting, led by junior Caleb Anderson, who dropped three of the Tigers’ six first-half three points en route to the 46-36 win.

Shelby (10-1, 14-1) jumped out early to the 15-8 lead.

The Norse didn’t shrink from the sharpshooting, however, powering back to trail 28-20 at the break, and then 34-27 after three.

“Good (North Muskegon) defense got it to within three points in the second half,” said North Muskegon head coach Jeff Cooke, “but Shelby kept us from getting any closer with key rebounds and good offensive passing.”

Shelby’s Anderson finished with 11 points, and sophomore Jeffrey Beckman poured in 10 more points to contribute to the balanced Tiger scoring.
Norse senior guard Antonio Gordon led all scorers with 17 points,  and senior Reese McCamant added eight points for North Muskegon.
