A strong defensive first half led the Mason County Central boys basketball team to a win over Benzie Central 71-23 on Wednesday night in a Class B district-62 semifinal game.

The Spartans started the game with a 23-6 first quarter run before taking a 44-10 lead at halftime.

MCC’s defensive effort continued in the third quarter as the Spartans went on a 13-4 run to lead after three quarters 57-14.

Kody Ambrose led the Spartans with 13 points and five assists.  Josh Ritzema added 11 points while Johnny Shafer and Blake Bladzik added 10 points each.

Mason County Central will take on Ludington on Friday night for the Class B district-62 championship.
