The West Michigan Lake Hawks topped Team Ohio on the road, 93-90 in ABA basketball action on Saturday.

Brandon Givens put in a pair of free throws to lift the Lake Hawks in the final moments of the game. Givens finished with a game-high 31 points.

“This was the type of win we needed going into the playoffs,” said Hawks coach Ronald Jenkins. “Being able to keep our poise down the stretch was the key to our success.”

Will Wright’s tripple double led West Michigan as he had 18 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. Ralph Monday put up a double-double with 10 assists and 10 rebounds.

The man of the boards was Bernard Web who pulled down 21 rebounds and Nate Jennings scored 15 points and had 12 rebounds.

West Michigan trailed after the first quarter and couldn’t capitalize at the free throw line in the second.

“At the half we talked about being prepared on the road before hitting the playing surface,” said Jenkins.

Those words turned around the Lake Hawks’ effort in the third and helped lead them to a 10-point lead. The fourth quarter, West Michigan struggled to control possessions which led to a Team Ohio run with under a minute remaining.
