Mona Shores and Ludington will be among a number of area teams competing Friday April 25 in the Scottville Optimist Track Invitational at Mason County Central High School.

MCC will be hosting the boys and girls track teams from 11 other schools in the meet which will start at 2:30 p.m. with the girls pole vault.

Rounding out the area schools in the meet will be Grant, Shelby, Montague, Hart, Fruitport and Whitehall from West Michigan and Manistee and Benzie Central on the northern end.

Ludington is fresh from winning the boys and girls team titles in the small schools’ White Division portion of the recent 14th Annual Rocket Invite at Reeths-Puffer.

Among the featured athletes in the meet will be sprinter Marquon Sargent and high jumper and long jumper Adreon Billups, of Mona Shores; hurdler Chase Rohrer, of Ludington; and distance runner Chase Barnett, of host MCC.

Billups and Sargent both won events in the boys’ meet in the large school Green Division at the Rocket Invite. Rohrer, meanwhile, won the 110-meter high hurdles for Ludington in the same meet. Other featured entrants include Ludington discus thrower Allen Keffer, also an individual winner in the Rocket Invite.

In the girls’ meet, some of the top performers are expected to be distance runner Lauren Biggs and Brandy Thomas, both of Ludington. Biggs won two distance races and Thomas the shot put in the Rocket Invite.

After the girls’ pole vault, the rest of the field events will begin at 3 p.m. The semifinals in the sprints and high hurdles will start at 4:15 p.m. followed by the 3,200-meter relay at 5 p.m. The rest of the running finals will start at 5:30 p.m.

Officials will score six places in each event.
