The Shelby Tigers could muster just one run in the top of the seventh inning of Friday’s doubleheader opener versus host Grant, while Grant needed late-inning run support in the nightcap to come away with to slight victories to complete to non-league sweep of the visiting Tigers.

Grant went up 2-0 after one, and 4-0 after three, while Shelby posted single runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings in the unsuccessful comeback bid.

Emily Gabrielse pitched the win for the Tigers, striking out six in the process, while Sara Sease and Gabrielse had extra-base hits for Grant and Dayna Wood added two singles to power the Tiger offense.

The two teams were tied  2-2 in the fourth, and Shelby went up 4-2 with two runs in the fifth. Grant countered with three runs in the sixth inning to come out with the win.

Gabrielse pitched the win, and Megan Polecek took the loss.

Sammy Slachter, Preskee Deater and Laura Saxton each had extra-base hits for Grant, and Shelby’s McKenna Inglis and Miranda Unger both had doubles in the losing effort.
