Muskegon Community College women’s softball team swept Grand Rapids Community College in its doubleheader on Friday.

The Jayhawks erupted for nine seventh-inning runs to top GRCC 11-0 in Game 1. In the nightcap, MCC  put up seven runs in the third and won 13-0 in five innings.

Megan Jean had three hits with three RBI and Alyson Behnke tallied three hits and a pair of RBI for MCC in Game 1. Sarah Ferenz had two hits and two RBI, Emily Peak added a pair of hits and an RBI and Caten Teff had two hits.

Megan VanderWal pitched  the Game-1 shutout on five hits, a pair of walks and 10 strikeouts.

In Game 2, Jayhawk pitchers gave up just one hit as Megan Jean and VanderWal combined for the shutout.

Emily Peak paced MCC with a home run, a single and four RBI. Sydney Tharp and Meghan Birr both had two hits and two RBI while Amanda Chaffee and Ferenz each had two hits and an RBI.
