SCOTTVILLE — The Mona Shores Sailors boys’ team and the Benzie Central girls’ team came away winners Friday in the Scottville Optimist Invitational Track Meet at Mason County Central High School.

Mona Shores picked up three first places from Marquon Sargent and one from Adreon Billups in running up 126 points in the boys’ meet. Billups won the high jump while Sargent captured the long jump, the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Mona Shores also won the 400-meter relay events by nipping the second-place team at the wire.

After Mona Shores, Fruitport had 113 points, Mason Central 76, Ludington 65, Whitehall 57, Benzie Central 37, Montague 21, Hart and Manistee 11 each, and Shelby 10.

Individual winners included pole vaulter Kaine Linstrom, Chase Barnett in the 1,600-meter run, Drew Griffis in the 800-meter run and Zac Benham in the 3,200-meter run for Mason Central.

Alec Stanley won the discus and Zach Gilson and the 400-meter dash for Fruitport’s Trojans. Fruitport also won the 800-meter and 1,600-meter relay events. 

Whitehall’s Matt Russell won the 110-meter high hurdles and Sky Christenson the 300-meter hurdles, respectively.

Barnett, of Mason Central, had the top individual performance in the boys’ meet by winning the 1,600-meter run in 4:18.00 while teammate Griffis took the 800-meter run with a 1:59.87 clocking.

In the girls’ meet, Benzie Central ended up third in the 1,600-meter relay and earned enough points to fight off second-place Ludington. Benzie Central also finished fourth, fifth and sixth in the 3,200-meter run to set up its final winning total.

Ludington earned a second place in the final relay and wound up with 91 points.

Manistee came in third with 76 points while Montague had 71 points, Whitehall 50, Mona Shores 34, Hart 31, Mason Central 30, Fruitport 26 and Shelby 18.

Field event individual winners included Montague’s Liz Moak in the high jump; Jasmine Gulley, of Mona Shores, in the long jump; and Ludington’s Brandy Thomas in the discus and shot put and Amy Grace Shoop in the pole vault.

Other event winners included Kylie Mount of Mason Central in the 100-meter hurdles; Hart’s Jennie Gottardo in the 400-meter dash; and Whitehall’s Jessica Harris in the 3,200-meter run.

Hart won the 3,200-meter relay while Montague captured the 400- and 800-meter relays.
