Holton pitcher Rachel Younts was the winner in both games Tuesday as the Red Devils swept a softball doubleheader from Newaygo, 10-0 and 13-0 in Central State Activities Conference action.
Younts only allowed to hits in the opening game. Alexis Younts homered and had three RBIs while Emily Larabee and Kaylee Slowik both added two hits for Holton.
In the nightcap, Younts allowed three hits and recorded three strikeouts to earn the win. Jacki Stone was 3-for-3 at the plate for Holton and Ashley Friend had two RBI.
White Cloud 9-9, Hesperia 8-11 – The Panthers couldn’t hold on to an 8-3 sixth-inning lead in Game 1. Paige Lavin had three hits and an RBI and Alexis Castillo had two hits and three RBI to lead Hesperia. Pitcher Katie Annis struck out eight in the loss. Hesperia bounced back in Game 2 with a pair of runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to secure a split. Meradith Schmitz pitched the complete game win and posted three hits at the plate, including a triple and two RBI. Danielle Wolfsen added two hits and two RBI for Hesperia.
Rockford 7-15, Grand Haven 6-0 – The Bucs scored five fourth inning runs to take a 5-3 lead in Game one, but couldn’t hold on. Jordan Buckingham, Kaylee Hartwell and Katelyn Messer each had a single and a double for Grand Haven. In Game two, the Bucs managed a pair of hits from Maddie Barshaw and Kylie Masko in shutout loss.
