The Fruitort Trojans needed a shootout to advance to the Division 2 district championship soccer match on Thursday.

Lakes 8 Conference rivals Fruitport and Spring Lake battled to a 1-1 tie before a shootout was needed to decide a winner.

The Trojans took the shootout 4-3 to earn the win.

Fruitport will face Reeths-Puffer in the district title game on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Coopersville High School.

Fruitport took a 1-0 lead into halftime with a goal from Marissa Hassevort. Kelsie Schultz earned an assist on the goal.

Nora Adkins scored in the second half for the Lakers.

Fruitport goalie Monica Holden made seven saves and SL’s Anya Gordon made six saces.
