Grand Haven’s softball team dropped an extra-inning heartbreaker to Grand Rapid Kenowa Hills in the Division 1 district semifinals on Saturday. The Bucs fell 7-6 in nine innings.

Aftering taking a 6-5 lead in the top of the ninth, Kenowa was able to rally off a Kali Wynsma tripple that scored Mallory Hoatlin. Mallory Bylsma hit a sacrifice fly to send in the winning run.

“I am very proud of the accomplishments that my girls earned,” said first-year Grand Haven coach Paul Masko whose team finished 16-17 overall. “This year was the closest in over seven years to reach the .500 mark.”

The Bucs were led by Jordan Buckingham with two doubles, a single and three RBI. Maddie Barshaw, Kylie Masko and Kaylee Hartwell had two hits apeice.
