SHELBY – The Whitehall Vikings showed its team depth in winning the West Michigan Conference girls’ league meet Tuesday night.
Whitehall scored 130 points to turn back runner-up Montague. Montague ended with 104 points. It was Whitehall’s balance that led to the meet title.
The Lady Vikings won five events in the meet at Shelby High School. Summer Woods led Whitehall to a one-two-three finish in one event when she won the 100-meter dash.
Jessica Harris added a victory in the 1,600-meter run while Whitehall also picked up first places from its 1,600-meter relay team and from Payton Bearup in the long jump.
Montague’s first places came from Abby Christmas in the 200-meter dash, Robbie Berg in the 300-meter hurdles, Megan Olson in the high jump and its 400- and 800-meter relay teams.
Mason County Central finished third in the meet with 78 points followed by Ravenna with 58, Hart 54, Oakridge 48, Shelby 32 and North Muskegon 22.
Hart had three league champions in Jennie Gottardo in the 400- and 800-meter races, Sierra Albus in the 3,200-meter run and its 3,200-meter relay team.
The other first places in the meet went to Mason County Central’s Kylie Mount in the 100-meter hurdles, Oakridge’s Kaycee Gillies in the shot put, Ravenna’s Samantha Swanson in the discus and Shelby’s CeCe McKenzie in the pole vault.
