Former Mona Shores High School golfer Andy Ruthkoski will play in the Sectional Qualifying tournament for the U.S. Open Golf TournamentMonday June 2 in Springfield, Ohio.

Ruthkoski, 31, is scheduled to tee off at 7:50 a.m.in the 36-hole qualifying event. He will start his round from the first tee. There are expected to be 63 players trying for three spots in the June 9-14 U.S. Open at Pinehurst, N.C.

The tournament is being played at Springfield Country Club. The location is one of 10 MondaySectional qualifiers for spots in the 114th U.S. Open Golf Tournament.

Spots in the 114th U.S. Open are based on the results of the Sectional Qualifying events.

No information is available on whether Mona Shores High School staff member Kyle Kurant will be playing Monday or where. Ruthkoski and Kurant both qualified by finishing in the top five at Muskegon Country Club for a Local Qualifying Tournament on May 12.

Two other qualifiers from the MCC event have been assigned to other sectionals.

Doug LaBelle II, of Charlotte, N.C., is scheduled to be one of 145 players trying for 13 spots at Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Tenn.

Randall Hutchinson, of Traverse City, is slated for a 7:12 a.m. starting time at Woodmont Country Club’s North Course in Rockville, Md. That location has 59 players competing for four spots.

Kurant finished second in the Local qualifier at MCC by shooting a two-under-par 70 while Ruthkoski, LaBelle and Hutchinson advanced by surviving a playoff for the final spots. Each carded a 71 at MCC.
