Three area baseball players were named first-team all-staters and four more were second-teamers in a recent announcement by the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Top-ranked Muskegon Catholic led the way with three selections, including Nick Holt being named to the first team in Division 4. Other first-team selections from the area were Fruitport’s Mitchell Reyes and Montague’s Jacob Buchberger.

Nick Holt, a junior, was named to the first team as a first baseman. He batted .500 with nine doubles, 39 RBI and was 7-0 with a 1.45 earned-run-average as a pitcher. He also scored 40 runs.

Reyes, a senior outfielder, batted .467 with 15 doubles and 30 stolen bases.

Buchberger, a sophomore, led Montague with a .453 batting average. He scored 21 runs and knocked in 27. He played shortstop for the Wildcats.

Second-teamers included Ludington’s Chad Large and Spring Lake’s Kyle Zietlow in Division 2, along with MCC teammates Alex Lewandoski and Jacob Holt.

Large was a shortstop and catcher for the Orioles. He battled .478 with 14 doubles.

Zietlow, a junior shortstop, battled .457 with 25 runs-batted-in.

Lewandoski, a speedster in the outfield for the Crusaders, batted .436 and scored a team-high 54 runs.

Jacob Holt, a sophomore catcher, battled .440 with three home runs and 44 RBI.
