The Whitehall baseball team saw its great season come to an end Saturday with a 4-2 loss to Gladwin in in a Division 2 regional semifinal game in Cadillac.
Gladwin broke open a 1-1 game with a pair of runs in the fifth inning.
Whitehall finished the season 24-11.
“We played a little flat today and it’s always disappointing to end the season with a loss, but this was one of my all-time favorite teams and I’m proud of the season they had,” said Vikings coach Warren Zweigle.
Jake Gillhespy pitched 5 2/3 of an inning for the Vikings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking four.
Nolan Throne led Whitehall offensively with two hits.
Escanaba 6, Newaygo 1 – The Lions lost in the first round of the Division 2 regional tournament and finished their season with a 26-7 record. Newaygo’s Matt Milbourne pitched three innings striking out three and walking six.
East Grand Rapids 8, Fruitport 2 – After winning their first division 3 district title in 16 years, the Trojans fell in the Division 2 regional semifinals. Kolin Lakatos had two hits and knocked in one run for Fruitport. Trojan starting pitcher Austin Curtis tossed 4 1/3 of an inning, allowing six runs (three of them earned. The Trojans finished the season with a 20-15 record.
