Hailey Hrynewich advanced past the Sweet 16 but was unable to reach the semifinals in the 98th Michigan Women’s Amateur Championship on Thursday.

In the Sweet 16, Hrynewich topped Lake Orion’s Kelly Hartican in 19 holes. The quarterfinals saw Hrynewich get tripped up by Flushing’s Lindsey McPherson, 3 and 2.

McPherson moved on to the semifinals and will face Shannon Warner of Livoniawith a 8:15 a.m. tee-off set.

“Right now I’m playing some of the best golf I’ve ever played,” said McPherson. “I think match play is a great style for me. In every tournament, even the LPGA tournament, the goal for me is always to win. I think I would be selling myself short if I wasn’t trying to win.”

Kimberly Dinh will face Jennifer Elshoz in the other semifinals which is slated for an 8 a.m. start.
