Power plays were key in the Muskegon Lumberjacks 3-2 win over the Fargo Force on Friday afternoon at the opener of the USHL Fall Classic West. All three of the Jacks goals came on the man-advantage.

Muskegon held on to the win off a Cooper Marody goal in the second period for a 2-1 lead. Tom Marchin added breathing room with a goal midway through the third period. Jack Rowe assisted on both goals.

The Lumberjacks led 1-0 late in the first period off a Daniel Willett goal. The Jacks dominated the Force in the period, outshooting them 13-2.

Fargo kept the game close with goals in the second and third periods. They nearly added a third goal off a power play with 3:55 left in the contest.

Eric Schierhorn posted the win in goal with 18 saves as the Lumberjacks held a 29-20 shots on goal advantage.

Muskegon’s preseason concludes Saturday with a 2 p.m. game against the Lincoln Stars at 2 p.m.
