District soccer semifinals: Grand Haven edges Mona Shores 1-0; Western Michigan Christian advances with a 5-0 win

scored on a penalty kick early in the first half, giving Grand Haven a hard fought 1-0 victory over Mona Shores Thursday in a Division 1 soccer district semifinal matchup.

The game was a showdown between two of the area’s most successful high school soccer programs.

Grand Haven advances to Saturday’s district title game against the winner of the Grandville-Rockford semifinal.

It was the third straight year that the Bucs ousted the Sailors in district competition.

Division 4

Western Michigan Christian 5, Kent City Algoma Christian 0 – After a scoreless first half, the Warriors took control with two goals apiece by Evan Fles and Dylan Mines and a single tally from Ben Mast. The Warriors, now 13-8, advance to Saturday’s district title game against Grand Rapids Wellspring Prep, which defeated Ravenna
