Daniel Sischo and Miguel Flores each scored in the second overtime to give the Muskegon Big Reds a thrilling 5-3 victory Monday over Kenowa Hills in a Division 2 district soccer matchup.

The Big Reds will play Reeths-Puffer in a semifinal match Wednesday at Sparta.

Muskegon broke a 1-1 halftime tie with two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Kenowa Hills railed to tie the score, forcing the two overtime periods.

The first overtime was scoreless.

With five minutes to go in the second overtime, Sischo had a breakaway and beat the Kenowa Hills goalie to the ball outside the box, then touched it past him to give the Big Reds a 4-3 lead.

A minute later, Flores went one-on-one against a defender. After a couple in and out moves stymied the defender, Flores burried the ball in the top left corner of the goal to finish the scoring.

Flores finished with two goals and one assist, Sischo had two goals, and Angelo Hernandez had the other Muskegon tally. Demetrio Lopez finished with two assists while Alberto Salazar and Jesus Pedilla each chipped in one.

Jake VanHoesen had seven saves in goal for the Big Reds.

Division 2

Reeths-Puffer 4, Coopersville 0 – Noah Sorn scored two goals in the first half, then Collin McFalls and Noah Cramer added second-half tallies for the Rockets, who outshot Coopersville 15-1. McFalls had two assists while Zach Anderson added one for Reeths-Puffer. Goalie Jake Lofgren got the shutout. Reeths-Puffer will play Muskegon in Wednesday’s district semifinals.

Fruitport 3, Fremont 0Noah Hendricks scored two goals in the first half and Cameron Brandow added a single tally in the second for Fruitport, which advances to a semifinal game Wednesday at Sparta against archrival Spring Lake. Hendricks and Logan Fielding had assists for the winners. Fruitport had a 14-11 advantage in shots. Goalie Conner Deneen got the shutout for the Trojans.

Spring Lake 5, Sparta 0Max Elve, Kaden Kendall, Kyle Zietlow, Ryan Zietlow and Lucas Rideiro each scored for the Lakers, who advance to the district semifinals Wednesday against Fruitport. The Lakers outshot Sparta 13-2 with Joe Czajka pitching the shutout in goal.
