The Spring Lake Lakers continued their mastery of the state soccer tournament with a 2-0 victory over archrival Fruitport Wednesday in a Division 2 district semifinal game.

The Lakers, who advanced all the way to the state finals last season, will play Reeths-Puffer Thursday in Sparta for the district title.

Ryan Zietlow scored 21 minutes into the first half to give the Lakers a 1-0 halftime lead. Keegan George scored seven minutes into the second half, giving Spring Lake an insurance goal. Kyle Zietlow had two assists in the game while goalkeeper Joe Czajka stopped all four Trojans shots to get the shutout.

“This was a good win for us,” said Spring Lake Coach Jeremy Thelen. “We are normally so defensive minded, but playing more of an offensive game was an important key for us tonight.”

Reeths-Puffer 1, Muskegon 0Noah Sorn scored at the 21 minute mark of the second half to lead the Rockets past the Big Reds in Division 2 semifinal action. Goalkeeper Jake Lofgren stopped all eight Big Reds shots to collect the shutout. Reeths-Puffer will play Spring Lake Thursday in Sparta for the district title.
