The Muskegon Community College women’s soccer team split a pair of games over the weekend, topping Cincinnati State 3-2 on Saturday but falling to Owens Community College 3-2 on Sunday.

The Jayhawks defeated Cincinnati State despite falling behind early in the contest. Alyssa Benedict scored a three-goal hat trick for the Jayhawks in the victory. Erika Bayak had the lone assist for MCC.

“Even though Cincinnati scored in the first 5 minutes of the game, we played our game, didn’t panic and had two nice goals before halftime,” said MCC coach Josh Watson. “We were organized in the back (defense) today. Cincinnati did not get a lot of opportunities to finish.”

In Sunday’s matchup, MCC (3-6) led 1-0 at halftime before losing the advantage in the second half. Haylie Hanks had a goal and assist for the Jayhawks while Benedict added one goal and Kortnie Heinig collected one assist.
