Quarterback Dakota Hudson passed for two touchdowns and ran for one as the Ravenna Bulldogs downed Shelby 38-12 Friday in West Michigan Conference football action.

Ravenna is now 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference. They are one game behind league leading Oakridge with one week to go in the conference season.

Shelby fell to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in the league.

Hudson opened up the scoring with a 35-yard touchdown run with 9:49 left in the first quarter.

Ravenna extended its lead to 10-0 with a 30-yard field goal by Fredrik Bental about four minutes later. That was the score at halftime.

Shelby narrowed the score to 10-7 early in the third quarter on a nine-yard touchdown scamper by Juan Cavazos.

But the Bulldogs pulled away over the next eight minutes with two long touchdown passes from Hudson to Alex White. The first score covered 44 yards and the second 29 yards.

Cavazos added a one-yard touchdown for Shelby in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter. Ravenna finished off the scoring with a one-yard scoring run by Gabe Zimmer and a 37-yard burst by Justin Jones.

Jones led Ravenna on the ground with 170 yards on 12 carries.

Cavazos rushed for 100 yards for Shelby while quarterback Gavin Porter completed seven passes for 105 yards, with two interceptions.
