The West Michigan Lake Hawks opened up their home schedule Saturday with a convincing 117-77 victory over the Oakland County Cowboys.

The Lake Hawks found themselves up 56-27 at halftime and didn’t let up in the third quarter when they scored 35 points which ended on a 9-2 run.

Ralph Monday led the Lake Hawks in scoring with 25 points and also had 10 rebounds on the night. Akeem Sweem scored 18 points while JhaMonte Melton had 15 and Kulawnie Saunders added 14.

Will Wright provided the Lake Hawks with nine rebounds, five steals, and six assists.

“Wright played in Mexico and actually had a few other opportunities but decided to stay home and play with us and we’re glad to have him,” said Lake Hawks Coach Ronald Jenkins.

Jenkins said the team was very excited to open at home in the Reeths-Puffer High School gym.

“I thought we came out with great energy and played hard,” Jenkins said. “We appreciated the crowd that came out because we know it was a busy day in the city.”

The team will now be on the road for its next three games but will return home Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Muskegon High School gym,
