Grand Haven used a balanced attack to top Traverse City Central 49-40 in girls basketball on Saturday night.

The win was the Bucs (1-1) first on the new season and came on the road in Traverse City.

Grand Haven scored double digits in every quarter but the second on Saturday, and found themselves up by twelve going into the fourth quarter. They’d be outscored in the final quarter but their lead going in proved to be more than enough to earn the win.

The Buccaneers were led in by Amanda Merz with 14 points, seven assists, eight rebounds, and three steals.

Sophia Newhouse added 11 points and three steals as well in the game, while Anna Gagnon scored eight.

Grand Haven defense stepped up by holding Traverse City Central’s Margot Woudhter to 16 points.
