The Muskegon Community College men’s basketball team came out hot in the first half Tuesday, opening up a 25-point lead at halftime then cruising to a 90-72 victory over Delta College.

Eddie Tornes ignited the first half explosion by scoring 24 points, including six 3-pointers. Marcus Tumblin added 13 points before halftime. The Jayhawk defense also played a big role, holding Delta to 30 percent shooting in the first half and forcing 11 turnovers.

Tornes ended up with 28 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. Tumblin was right behind him with 26 points, including five 3-pointers. Aaron Sydnor contributed 10 points and nine boards despite having foul trouble and Will Roberson added 11 points and five assists.

The Jayhawks hit 14 triples as a team.

“I was very pleased with the way we played today,” said MCC Coach Dave Schlump. I thought we defended and shared the ball well. It was a great exclamation point to put on the first half of the season, and we’re excited to get into league play and see what happens.”
