The Meijer Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame Basketball Classic is more than just a lakeshore holiday tradition – it’s also a major fundraiser for the competing teams.
Since its inception in 2002, the annual two-day tournament between Christmas and New Year’s Day has given back more than $110,000. The event is now held at Reeths-Puffer’s sprawling gymnasium, which provides ample parking and seating for fans to watch four games, featuring the defending Class A state champion Muskegon Big Reds on back-to-back nights on Monday, Dec. 29 and Tuesday, Dec. 30.
The Big Reds, who have won 30 consecutive games, play Lansing Eastern in Monday’s second game and East Kentwood in the Tuesday night finale. Monday’s opener features East Kentwood vs. Birmingham Brother Rice and Tuesday’s opener is Lansing Eastern vs. Brother Rice.
Complete schedules are listed below. For additional details on the event and year-by-year results, visit the MASHF web site at http://mashf.com/Classic.htm
