Local Sports Journal
The first chances to see the defending Class A state champion Muskegon Big Reds basketball team locally will be in a pair of tournaments featuring some of the top teams in the state and Midwest region.
The Big Reds, featuring two senior Mr. Basketball candidates in 6-10 Deyonta Davis (a Michigan State commit) and 6-4 Joeviair “Hip-Hop” Kennedy, will be at Reeths-Puffer on Monday, Dec. 29 and Tuesday, Dec. 30, as part of the annual Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame Basketball Classic. Muskegon will play Lansing Eastern at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 29 and come back the next night and play East Kentwood at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 30.
Coach Keith Guy’s Big Reds will then turn their attention to one of the top teams in the entire Midwest, when Chicago Curie (Ill.) visits Muskegon’s Redmond-Potter Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 3 for a rematch in the 7 p.m. final game of the three-game Muskegon Showcase.
