The Holton boys basketball team saw a furious fourth quarter rally fall short in a 42-40 loss to Tri-County in a Tuesday non-league contest.

Tri-County led 9-4 after the first quarter and 23-16 at halftime. The Vikings extended their lead to nine points in the fourth quarter before Holton charged back.

The Red Devils trailed by two in the final seconds when they were fouled when attempting a 3-pointer. The first free throw was good, the second missed, and the third was missed on purpose, allowing Holton to get the rebound.

The Red Devils missed a 10-footer at the end of the game to miss a chance to force overtime.

Clay Mullins led Holton with 16 points and nine rebounds. Kevin Slowik added 11 points.

Ryne Dailey led Tri-County with 12 points.
