The Fremont boys basketball team defeated Reed City 51-50 in non-league action on Tuesday night.

Sam Kaastra, who had 12 points, blocked a shot at the buzzer to seal the victory.

Osvald Trenholm led the Packers with 15 points.

The Packers started the game sluggish, falling behind 14-0 with three minutes left in the first quarter. But they rallied over the next two quarters and emerged with a 41-38 lead after the third.

“It was a hard fought defensive battle on both sides,” said Fremont coach Peter Zerfas. “Any win up north in Reed City is a good win.”

Muskegon Catholic 79, Holton 40 – The Crusaders ran their record to 4-0 with an easy win at Holton. They led by 10 at halftime, then blew the game open by outscoring the Red Devils 27-12 in the third quarter and 19-5 in the fourth. Erik VanFossen paced MCC with 22 points while Lamar Jordan III had nine points and five steals. Tanner Fowler and Jacob Bowden each scored nine points for Holton (0-4).

Kent City 61, Tri-County 51 –  Trailing by a point after three quarters, the host Eagles (4-1) used solid free-throw shooting down the stretch to capture the non-league victory. Randy Thompson led Kent City with a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds. He also dished out four assists. Nick Alt added 16 points and five assists. He canned 10-of-12 free throws. Colton Carew added 13 points, 11 in the first half.

Coopersville 68, Fruitport 40 – The Trojans were behind 29-20 at halftime and 38-24 after the third quarter before the Broncos pulled away. Nathan Kriger led the Trojans with 11 points while Nick Kramer had eight points and 14 rebounds.
