Home field advantage is turning out to be a major plus this season for the Muskegon Community LSJ Logo incertCollege softball team.

The Jayhawks ran their home record to a perfect 7-0 Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of Glen Oaks Community College, 15-0 and 9-1.

MCC is now 26-10 overall and 13-3 in the Western Conference of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association. The Jayhawks are in second place, two games behind Kellogg Community College.

In the opener, the Jayhawks shut the door on Glen Oaks by scoring eight runs in the first inning and seven in the fourth.

Meghan Birr had two hits, including a three-run triple, for the Jayhawks. Amy Gillings had a two-run double.

Pitcher Megan Jean got the win, tossing a five-inning shutout. She scattered three hits while striking out two and walking none.

In the nightcap, MCC scored two runs in the first inning on an RBI double by Morgan Giddings and an RBI single by Jean. They added three more in the fifth with a two-run single from Gillings and an RBI triple by Birr.

Birr finished 3-for-4 at the plate and scored three runs.

Nicole Depender pitched the victory, scattering nine hits while striking out two and walking one in six innings.
