Fruitport pitcher Corey Merkins held Fremont to two unearned runs Tuesday as the Trojans defeated the Packers

7-2 in the opening game of a Lakes 8 Conference doubleheader.

Jarod Wierengo led Fruitport with three hits while Matt Sander and Zac Miller had two hits apiece. Nate Hoffman had two hits for Fremont.

The Packers bounced back to take a 10-3 win in the nightcap.

Christian Wade got the win on the mound for Fremont. Brandon Clark paced the offense with three hits while Hoffman and Jake Burt each had two.

Matt Sander has a double and a stolen base for Fruitport.
