Grand Haven gets a walk-off win in opener, sweeps Grandville in softball 5-4 and 15-5

A walk-­off win in the opener sparked the Grand Haven softball team to a doubleheader sweep of O-­K Red Conference rival Grandville Tuesday, 5-­4 and 15-­5.LSJ Logo incert

The Bucs, who improved to 7-1 overall and 2-1 in the league, rallied from a 4­-0 deficit in Game 1. They completed the thrilling comeback with a walk­-off hit by Cheyenne Ray that scored Morgan Hill from second base in the seventh inning.

Kylie Masko hit a two-­run double in the sixth inning that tied the game at 4­-4. She also pitched four innings of scoreless relief, allowing the Bucs to storm back.

In Game 2, the Bucs’ bats caught fire with 15 hits, ­ including three apiece from Kaylee Hartwell and Mikayla Gronback. The big blast came off the bat of senior Pita Messer, who hit a three-­run homer in the fifth inning.
