Mason Lysiak hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to give the Orchard View softball team an 8-7 walk-off win over Fremont Tuesday in the opener of a Lakes 8 doubleheader.

LSJ Logo incertThe Cardinals (8-­6 overall) came out swinging early in Game 1, scoring seven runs. The Packers were able to fight back and tied it up in the top of the seventh, before Lysiak settled the issue.

Lysiak was 4-for-4 in the game and 7-for-8 on the day. Other big bats for the Cardinals were Jaelynn Eggerson, who went 5­-for-­7 on the day with a home run, two doubles, and four RBIs; and Bree Weck, who also went 5-­for­-7 and scored four runs.

Fremont fought back for an 11-8 win in Game 2. The Packers jumped out to an early lead and held off a late OV rally.

Fruitport 15­-18, Muskegon Catholic 5-­0Del Bennett’s stellar pitching and hitting sparked the Trojans past the Crusaders in a Lakes 8 Conference doubleheader. Bennett pitching a complete game in the opener and fanned six. She contributed four hits at the plate while Sammy Hockstra knocked in three runs. Andrea Benson pitched three innings in the Game 2 victory, striking out five batters. Bri Dawson had a four RBI performance for the Trojans.

Spring Lake 9-­10, Ludington 0-­0 – The Lakers (12­-2 overall, 10-­0 conference) were able to sweep the Orioles on Tuesday thanks in part to RJ Morrow, who pitched a two­-hit shutout with six strikeouts in Game 1. Madelyn Nelson added three hits and three RBIs in Game 1 for the Lakers. In Game 2, Morrow and Laura Park combined for a three-hit shutout. Nelson added another three hits to finish the sweep, while Katie Mumby added two hits.
