Kenadee Shugars made sure the Montague softball team started the season on a positive note.

LSJ Logo incertShe pitched a one-hitter Thursday, helping the Wildcats defeat Hart 11-0 in the first game of a West Michigan Conference doubleheader.

Then Shugars displayed her offensive skills, hitting a three-run inside-the-park homer and a grand slam as Montague completed the sweep with a 22-2 victory.

Shugars struck out eight and walked only one in game one. Allyssa Bobian had two hits, including an inside-the-park homer, and five RBIs while Hannah Smith had three hits and scored two runs.

Pitcher Jill Bennett pitched the second game for Montague, scattering six hits while striking out four and walking three. Brandi Rice had three hits, including a homer and a triple, with three RBIs while Linze Neubauer added three hits and three RBIs.
