Pitcher Emily French scattered seven hits and had five strikeouts, leading the Reeths-Puffer softball team to a 3-1 victory over Kenowa Hills Tuesday in the opening game of an O-K Black doubleheader.

LSJ Logo incertFrench also had a hit and an RBI in the contest while Carly Murat added two hits for the Rockets.

Kenowa Hills turned the tables in the nightcap, holding Reeths-Puffer to one hit and winning 15-0.

Skylar Olson had the lone hit for the Rockets, who are now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Mona Shores 7-0, Zeeland East 3-7 – The Sailors salvaged a split against O-K Black rival Zeeland East, bringing their season record to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in league play. In the opener, junior pitcher Desi Parker fanned seven Chix batters in the 7-3 victory. The Sailors’ offense was sparked by Mackenzie Lund, who was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Juniors Mackenzie Willeke, Mackenzie Quinn and Parker each had two hits, as did senior Kayla Savacool. The Sailor bats went silent in the nightcap. 

West Michigan Conference

Oakridge 4-7, Whitehall 0-0 – Oakridge scored a pair of shutout victories against rival Whitehall, with Alyssa Fessenden earning both pitching victories for the Eagles. Fessenden combined to strike out eight during the twin bill, while only allowing seven hits.

Lakes 8

Spring Lake 6-18, Orchard View 5-3 – The Lakers swept the league doubleheader from Orchard View. Pitcher Bre Weck had 13 strikeouts for the Cardinals in the first game, but still took the loss. In the nightcap, the Lakers offense used 12 walks to capture the victory. Sophomore Jaelynn Eggerson led the Orchard View offense on the day with two doubles and a triple.

Ludington 4-15, Muskegon Catholic 3-2 – The Orioles used five hits and five runs from Breanna Lang in the nightcap to complete a sweep of the Crusaders. Ludington also got five runs from Alanna Young and four hits from Stephanie Sniegowski.
