Western Michigan Christian swept Hesperia in a non-league baseball doubleheader on Thursday, 12-3 in the opener and LSJ Logo incert10-3 in Game 2.

Warrior pitcher Matt VanderPloeg (3-0) went five innings and struck out six in the Game 1 win for WMC.

VanderPloeg also posted four hits and two RBIs. Cam Waller had two hits and three RBIs and Jared Varnado had two hits and two RBIs.

Logan Waller and Eric Bourdo each had two hits while Brandon Butrick, Samuel Goorman and Tyler VanBeek each posted single hits for WMC.

In the nightcap, Coleman Brott (4-0) pitched four innings and had five strikeouts while posting three hits and three RBIs at the plate for the Warriors. VanderPloeg added two hits and two RBIs and Cam Waller had two hits.

“Defensively we played pretty solid and supported our pitchers,” said WMC coach Chris Van Hekken. “Today our bats came alive and we did a great job of being patient at the plate.”
