The Western Michigan Christian baseball team posted a pair of wins Saturday and won the championship in the Extra Innings baseball tournament at Marsh Field.

lsj-fb-logoThe Warriors topped Shelby 11-1 in Game 1 and cruised past Muskegon 12-2 in the championship game.

Coleman Brott pitched all five innings in the title game for WMC, posting three strikeouts and just one earned run.

WMC’s Jared Varnado scored three runs and had a double while Logan Waller and Brandon Butrick posted two runs each.

“We showed great discipline at the plate today and I couldn’t be happier about that,” said WMC coach Chris Vanhekken. “Jared (Varnado) continues to improve calling the game behind the plate and offensively he is leading our team.”

Muskegon’s Talmadge Carter, Larmo Greenan and Terrian Hill had a hit apiece.

In the opener, WMC’s Matt VanderPloeg pitched 3 1/3 innings with four strikeouts and gave up two hits against Shelby. Eric Bourdo had two hits and two RBIs while Varnado had a two-run double.
