Shelby baseball team uses late-inning heroics to sweep a doubleheader from Fremont

The Shelby baseball team captured two dramatic victories over Fremont Thursday in non-league action.

LSJ Logo incertThe Tigers won the first game 3-2. Kasey DeWitt hit the game-winning single in the eighth inning, knocking in Jake Baffi from third base.

Baffi and Jamie Rupright had two hits apiece while Kris Josephson had an RBI double.

Josephson pitched a complete game in the opener, scattering six hits, striking out five and walking two.

In Game 2, the Tigers trailed by one in the bottom of the seventh, then rallied for a 5-4 victory with a sacrifice fly by sophomore Jonah Kelly and an RBI walk by Jim Hughey.

Walker Barrs and Ben White each had two hits and Kelley had 2 RBIs.

Kelley also pitched his first varsity victory with a complete game.
