Muskegon Catholic positioned itself safely on top of the Lakes 8 Conference baseball race with a pair of baseball wins over Spring Lake on Friday.

LSJ Logo incertThe Crusaders (22-1-1, 14-0) won 4-2 in the opener and 8-3 in the nightcap.

Pitcher Nick Holt went the distance for MCC in Game 1 and also had two hits at the plate.

The Crusaders posted a pair of unearned runs in the sixth and runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

John Sanocki’s RBI single in the fourth and Zach Huston’s RBI double in the fifth were the difference makers.

] Nick Holt and brother Jacob Holt had two hits apiece for MCC.  Kyle Peets had two hits and an RBI for Spring Lake, which is second in the Lakes 8 with an 11-5 record.

In Game 2, the Crusaders took a 3-0 lead in the first inning off a Jacob Holt 3-run homer and closed the game with a five-run seventh inning. ]

Huston garnered the win on the hill for MCC, pitching three innings after relieving Devin Comes.

Jacob Holt finished with two hits and three RBIs, Zach Winzer hit an RBI double, Nick Holt had an RBI single, and Dom Woodard had an RBI double for MCC.  Spring Lake was led by Mark Williamson with three hits.
