The Muskegon Mustangs football team opened their season Saturday night with a 25-6 victory over the West Michigan Force in Kalamazoo. Muskegon used a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to seal the victory.

Rodney Anderson led Muskegon’s ground attack, breaking free for a 77-yard touchdown and a three-yard TD. Anderson’s first run put Muskegon up 11-0 while his big gain put them up 18-6 in the third quarter. John Ross added a touchdown on the ground from 27 yards.

Quarterback Aaron James was 5 of 7 passing for 76 yards. James’ longest pass was a 27-yard catch by Demonte Collins who finished with a pair of catches for 39 yards.

Kicker Jose Diaz gave Muskegon a 3-0 lead in the first quarter with a 38-yard field goal. The Mustangs took an 11-6 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Mustang defense gave up just two first downs and 67 yards on the ground while forcing five turnovers.
