Ravenna pitcher Madi Broton struck out 13 batters and scored the winning run, leading the Ravenna softball team to a 3-2 victory over Oakridge Wednesday in a Division 3 pre-district game.LSJ Logo incert

Broton pitched a four-hit complete game for Ravenna. She also had three hits, including a double and a triple.

With the game tied 2-2 in the seventh inning, Broton reached base on an error, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Emily Kubasiak, then scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Lilly Lieffers.

Lieffers recorded all three Ravenna RBIs and Alyssa Slade had two hits.

Alyssa Fessenden and Alessa Buchner each had two hits for Oakridge.

Ravenna will play Montague on Saturday in districts, with the winner advancing to the final on the same day.

In other action, Mona Shores defeated Grand Rapids Union 7-0 in a Division 1 pre-district contest, while Shelby lost to Reed City 14-4 in Division 3. No details were available for either game.

Division 2

Spring Lake 9, Fruitport 1RJ Morrow pitched seven innings and struck out seven batters to lead Spring Lake over rival Fruitport in a Division 2 pre-district game.  Madelyn Nelson knocked in three runs for the Lakers. Alexis Jurgens knocked in the Trojans’ lone run.  The Lakers will face Sparta in the semifinals on Saturday, with the winner to play Allendale or Coopersville in the finals.

Tri County 16, Orchard View 3 – The Cardinals’ season came to an abrupt halt on Wednesday against Tri County. Orchard View (20-14) was led by Adrianna Martinez and Savanna Locke, who each had two hits.

Division 3

Grant 5, Cedar Springs 0 – The Tigers’ softball season is still alive after a shutout victory over Cedar Springs on Wednesday. Emily Gabrielse led the offense with a three runs batted in on the day. Gabrielse also picked up the win in the pitching circle for the Tigers, hurling seven shutout innings while only allowing three hits. The Tigers will next host Tri County in districts.
