Western Michigan Christian’s Jared Varnado connected on a two-run home run in the fifth inning, and the Warriors held on to defeat Covenant Christian 5-3 in a River Valley Conference clash on Wednesday.
Varnado was also the winning pitcher for the Warriors, limiting the Chargers to four hits through 6 2/3 innings. Matt VanderPloeg recorded a single out in the seventh to earn the save.
Eric Bourdo, Matt VanderPloeg and Brandon Butrick had two hits each, while Logan Waller tallied a hit and scored two runs.
Cam Waller added a hit and two RBIs for the Warriors (11-4 overall).
