Detroit sports glance: J.D. Martinez hits three home runs, Tigers thump Yankees 12-4

Tigers 12, Yankees 4 – J.D. Martinez led the Tigers to a victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday afternoon, snapping their four-game skid and avoiding a weekend sweep.

J.D. Martinez hit three home runs and knocked in six runs for Detroit.

Victor Martinez and Andrew Romine also hit a home run for the Tigers.

Detroit starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez pitched the victory, allowing three runs on seven hits in seven innings.

Detroit will continue its road trip with a three-game series in Cleveland against the Indians, starting on Monday night.

Record: 35-34
